Three Important Scenes

One important scene is When Haji Ali brought Greg Mortenson up the mountain and told him " These mountains have been here for a long time, and so have we. You can't tell the mountains what to do. You must listen to them." This is important scene because this is when Haji Ali sticks up for his people and tells Greg that he can't tell his people what to do because it is annoying them and driving them crazy. This is scene is during the time they were building the school for Korphe and Greg wanted to get it done before winter so the children didn't have to be outside and get colds. Haji Ali teaches Greg that just because he is the director of the foundation doesn't mean that he should yell at everyone and tell then how to build their school.
A Second important scene is when Greg Mortenson tells Khan that his wife, Tara, is pregnant and that it was boy. This scene is important because Greg told Khan a lie so he could escape.He knew it meant a lot to their people if someone had a baby because that means that they are passing on the family name. He told Khan that his wife was having a baby in the place where they had kept him. greg asked Khan if he could call his wife but Khan said there was no phones. He told him that his wife was expecting him to be home for the birth of his son.
The last important scene in these two chapters is when Haji Ali tells Greg that he can't read the Koran. this is an important scene because this tells Greg that this generation of kids will be able to read the koran unlike their parents. Greg Mortenson learned that Haji Ali wants more for his children then he could ever of had. He doesn't want them to end like him. He doesn't want them to not be able to read the koran. This is important because scene this tells Greg that Haji Ali is always thinking of his people and that he hopes that building this school will bring them happiness.
I think that the scene when Haji Ali tells Greg that he shouldn't tell his people what to do is important because it shows that Haji Ali isn't afraid to stick up for him and his people. It also shows that Haji Ali doesn't like it when his people are being told what to do by Greg. Its also important because Greg responds by saying that he is sorry and that when Haji asks him to do something he does it. Saying something to someone is better than just watching something you don't like happen. Haji Ali shows that in this scene and in every scene that he is in.
When Greg mortenson tells Khan that his wife is pregnant with boy when she is actually pregnant with a girl is important, I think, is because he lied about the gender of his baby to safe his own life. He could've put his baby in danger if they found out it was actually girl. Another reason why I think this scene is important is because he the people who kidnapped him could find out where he lives and come and visit his wife and him and see that his baby is actually a girl and kill them.
The last is important, I think because this is a big moment for Haji Ali. He's telling Greg that he can't read the sacred book of his religion. Greg takes this as a sign of respect because this means that Haji Ali trusts him enough with this secret. Haji and Ali are coming closer because of this.

Three important things that happened in chapter 13 are Greg finally sat down to share his third cup of tea with Haji Ali becoming family, Haji Mehdi came over the bridge demanding the construction of the school stop, and Greg was in a rush to find new sites to build new schools in peshawar, and got into a taxi and was brought to Haji Mirza's house.
Haji Ali found greg ask him for a favor and his favor was for greg to sit down and shut his mouth. Haji Ali took gregs stuff and locked it in a storage room in his house.When greg got there Haji Ali asked him to sit down because he needed to share his third cup of tea with him making them family in the hindu religion.
I think this seen is important because it shows how close greg and the people of Korphe have grown on each other in the time they’ve known each other. In the muslim religion sharing tea is really important to them because they don’t have much sugar at all. The first time greg shared a cup of tea he was a stranger, the second time he was a friend, the third cup of tea makes them family.
Haji Mehdi came over the bridge demanding that the school be taken down because he thought greg was trying to poison the muslim boys as well as girls minds with american teachings. Haji Ali wasn’t going to let the building be taken down so he, not happily but willingly handed over 7 of his towns finest rams.To the people of korphe rams are sacred and its the responcibility of the 1st born child to take care of their ram so giving them away to a person u know is going to kill and eat them wasn’t easy for them at all but it had to be done.
I think this scene is important because it shows how much Haji Ali cared about the education of the children of his village and how much he was willing to sacrafice in order for them to get the education they deserved. Haji Ali wanted more than anything to be able to read the koran, and for the kids of korphe to be able to read not jus the koran but what ever they wanted.He was willing to give up every thing even his life for that accomplishment.
Greg was in a rush to get back to his wife Tara who was about to deliver Greg’s daughter in a month but first he wanted to find new sites for schools in Peshawar a city in the west of pakistan. At that time it was dangerous for a foreigner in Pakistan and so did Haji Ali. So befor Greg left Korphe the chief made him promise to never go anywhere alone, an to find a chief that invites him into his house for tea for safety reasons. Greg was taken to Haji Mirza’s house by a driver named khan. Haji Mirza kindly offered him tea and welcomed him into his home. The next morning at four o’clock Greg was waken up to a rifle pointed at his chest and a light in his face. He was being taken by the Taliban.
I think this scene is important because it shows what greg went through during his task of trying to build schools for kids who need them. It also shows the danger he faced and the courage/determination he had to face those dangers in order to finish what he had started.
