An important scene that happened through chapters 1-2 was when Greg landed in Korphe. He landed there because he wanted to climb the K2 mountain because that was his way of doing something big for his little sister who had just died. His plan was to reach the top and place one of her belongings there . Unfortunatly he came down because he was feeling sick. He ended up in a village called Korphe which is located in the middle east. The village is very poor and the kids barely can afford a teacher. They're stuck writing with sticks in the dirt while their teacher is off teaching in a richer village. This scene is very important because it's the start of something huge.
Another Important scene I felt was when Greg heard a caravan and turned around to be pretty much rescued by Mouzafer, who was his guider. Mouzafer kept a good eye on Mortenson but after a few days, Mortenson was lost again. Overall, If Mouzafer wasn't rescued the first time and didn't turn around he most likely would have died due to the conditions he was in. If he didn't survive there, then him finding Korphe, and his project on building schools for the less fortunate would never have happened.
When he landed he thought he wasn't in Korphe any longer. But after asking around and doing the best he could to understand the people he was talking to, he found out he was in a small village called Korphe. Seeing all the kids with very little, touched his heart and he decided to do something about it.
When Mortenson got lost after being rescued by Mouzafer, he reached a village called Askole. The chief of the village, took Mortenson to his house, where he gave Mortenson butter tea. This was an important scene beacuse the chief accepted Mortenson and butter tea is very important to the people in the village.
Another important scene in chapters 1-2, was that Greg Mortenson failed to reach the peak of K2. He failed to reach the peak because he was feeling ill from the conditions on K2. This is important because if he had not failed, then he would have never found Korphe to help make schools in Pakistan.
Also Greg Mortenson failing to cross the bridge to Askole was another important scene. Mortenson was still disoriented and tired from his night on K2 and did not see the bridge to cross to go to Askole. He then continued to travel straight and found a small village, called Korphe. It is important that Mortenson found Korphe because it was the beginning of his cause and work. It led him to all the events to follow.
Lastly it is important that Greg Mortenson was able to survive the night on K2. He was trying to return to Askole after his failed attempt to reach the peak of K2. He became lost and had to stay the night on K2 in the frigid weather and was then rescued by a caravan. It is very important that he survived this experience because if he had died, none of the following events would have happened, like him making a school for Korphe or the other villages in Pakistan.
Chapter 1 + 2 important events
1 - Greg Mortenson spending the night on the glacier after he failed to reach the summit was a important scene. In this scene he thought about his life and his sister Christa who died when she was young. - This is a important scene because he explained the reasons why Greg was climbing K2 in the first place. If Christa had not died when she was young Greg probably wouldn't have attempted to climb K2 to place her necklace at the summit, and if he did not do this, non of the schools he had built would ever of been made.
2 - When Greg saw and heard a caravan nearby was a important scene as well. Mouzafer who guided Mortenson before was in this caravan and helped Greg get back down the mountain. But Mouzafer moved to far ahead and Greg had gotten lost again. He continued to wonder in what he thought was the right direction until he came upon the village of Korphe where Haji Ali gave him tea. - This is a important scene because if Mortenson had not heard the caravan he could of died on the glacier, and if Mouzafer did not go ahead to set camp up Greg would on of gotten lost. If he did not get lost then he would never of ended up in Korphe and met Haji Ali who showed him how much they needed a school.
3 - When Haji Ali accepted Greg into his home for tea was a important scene. If Haji Ali did not help the disoriented and tired Greg or if didn't receive the same welcome as he did, he might not of promised a school for this village. Haji Ali took care of Greg like he was family and Greg appreciated it. - This is a important scene because if Haji Ali did not treat Greg as warmly as he did and have three cups of tea with him, then Greg probably wouldn't have promised the village for Korphe. His promise to Haji Ali changed Greg's future and if he had not done this, then Greg might of just went back to America after he recovered and never returned.
4 - Failing to reach the summit is a important scene of chapter one. Greg Mortenson failed to reach the summit after he spent three days rescuing a fellow climber who was stuck on the mountain. By rescuing the climber Greg lost his chance to summit K2. - This is important because if he did reach the summit of K2 then he wouldn't of gotten lost on his way down and he would of left the necklace on the summit which was his goal. He would not have ended up in Korphe as he did and he probably wouldn't return to K2 because he had already reached his goal of putting the necklace at the summit. Without Greg failing to reach the summit the CAI program and Greg's
